چکیده
Consistency limits are the basic parameters used as standard inputs for any soil investigation program to evaluate geotechnical properties of fine-grained soils. The primary objective this study is investigate variations in undrained shear strength clays with different plasticity based on fine content, clay mineralogy, and water absorption capacity. To achieve objective, 33 Fall cone tests were conducted low-, high-, very high-plastic mixtures. Various blends ensured by preparing mixtures Na-montmorillonite (NaM)/Ca-montmorillonite (CaM), (NaM)/Kaolinite (K), (NaM)/Sepiolite (S). According experimental results, highest liquid limit (LL) was obtained 100 % NaM at 255.07 %, whereas lowest LL S 33.55 %. Similarly, 160 kPa 30 content clay, 10 same content. Consequently, an framework, empirical equations which could be establish relationships among penetration-water limit-clay strength-cone penetration.

SYNOPSIS Results of unconsolidated-undrained triaxial tests, field vane shear tests and cone penetration tests have been used to develop correlations between undrained shear strength and cone resistance for a soft to medium alluvial clay in the Lopez Canyon area of San Diego. When comparing uu triaxial results with cone resistance, the average cone factor was 11 with a standard deviation of 1.5...

series of undrained monotonic triaxial tests and cone penetration tests were conducted on loose silty sand samples to study correlation between undrained shear strength of silty sands (sus) and piezocone test results. cpt tests were conducted at 27 silty sand samples in calibration chamber. the results indicate that, in low percent of silt (0-30%), as the silt content increases, the undrained s...
متن کاملViscous Rate Effects in Shear Strength of Clay
Viscous rate effects are commonly observed in clay soils in applications that involve high strain rates such as free falling penetrometer tests. Viscous rate effects are not well studied thus affecting reliable interpretation of these applications. This paper presents an investigation of viscous rate effects in clay using laboratory rate studies covering a wide range of strain rates (6 orders o...
